My Gadgetry

I'm a self-confessed innovation follower and technology is my religion.

I love my gadget just as much as I love my parents.

I had a couple of gadgets in my life the I've treasured very much. And when I mean "treasured", that means it's quite phased out. it is because I take care of my belongings very, very, very much.

Although it may seem as embarrassing for me, I got to feature my precious gadgetry for the reader's pleasure.

Motorola L6

 Source: caytech.net

This phone model was given by dad. He left it on my care just before he left for work in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

That was 4 years ago.

Motorola L6 may seem lacking memory card slots and stuff from its similar modern models like L7 and L7i, it is still worth its salt.

With dimensions of 113 x 49 x 10.9 mm, 56 cc and weighing with only 86 g, it's perfect for carrying around without the problem of bulkiness.

Samsung s760

It was bought also by my dad in preparation with my college subject, Photojournalism, which I love. I loved photography ever since high school through the use of my Motorola L6.

This camera is very sturdy and has a life of up to 4500++ shots, depending on your frequency of usage.

Sadly, it's focusing broke out just months before its first year.

It has plenty of capabilities, making it one of the most practical point-and-shoot cameras out there. You can edit your photos such as cropping, changing color tones, as well as rotating it just after shooting . Also, it has video shooting capabilities as well as audio recording that saves memory space but doesn't compromise the image's quality.

Well, as a matter of fact, this is all that I have but I'm not sad of it. These are my from my dad's efforts from working overseas and must be treasured.

So don't wonder why my gadgets lasts long (well except the camera) on my custody.

Hanging a Kangaroo - the Pinoy way

NOTE: No animals were harmed in the making of this blog entry.

Have you ever encountered a Kangaroo that's vicious in nature who's able to scold you around silly like a kid?

I know you know one. But for those who aren't, that certain animal wouldn't be found anywhere.

Meet HangARoo, a modern twist to the classic word game "Hangman".

The game's mechanic is simple: The player must save the poor Kangaroo from hanging by guessing the phrases through which by selecting letters from the alphabet to fill in the slots.

If the player commit too many mistakes, the sharp-tongued animal will be sent flying up above while looking at you once more for being simply stupid in not answering the problem.

It is highly-addictive to play. Actually, it is quite therapeutic too, for ending a life of another insult-compulsive life.

Being entertaining to people, the modern-day word game have finally made its way to the Filipinos by providing phrases that Pinoys can actually answer.

Thanks to Filipino blogger Marhgil Macuha, players can now test their knowledge of possibly anything Pinoy.

Examples of questions asked in the game covers from "Mga Binugbog ni Pacquiao", "Philippine Province", "Love Radio DJ", even "PBB Double Up Housemates."

The game even asks questions about the 2010 Philippine Elections, and about the clan linked to the horrific massacre last November.

So, can you beat the challenge?

Try playing the Pinoy HangARoo right here, right now!

NEW YEAR, NEW GADGET
By: Mary Joy Mondero

My sister bought new gadget every year as a gift for herself. And for this year , she had the new Tourque cellphone. It is my first time to saw a Tourque. It has definitely caught my eye with its metal case.

The phone's over all design makes it look expensive. It is heavier than other other phones, but not too heavy. The keypad is made up of metal same of its silver and black case.

The phone is very practical and convenient to use especially now that most of the people have more than just one sim. Tourque metal is a Dual -sim phone. You need not turn off nor switch to a different setting in using one card to another. The user has the option to either  activate both at the same time or use just one. What's more convenient about it is that both sim can have different call, SMS, MMS, security and network settings.

Tourque has dial keys for each sim. Its It's easy and fast by simply typing in the number you want to call from. Nonetheless, you can assign up to nine quick dial up keys for your contacts.

There are also advanced features in this phone. You can access the internet via WAP. There are settings already available on the phone, but it's best to contact your network provides first to use this function. it can be quite hard to request for a GPRS configuration for this phone just yet, but now the Tourque is becoming more and more popular these days. I'm sure network providers would be able to offer a suitable configuration for this one.

Other features include an e-book reader, FM radio and an audio player. The phone's internal memory are quite low, but the phone's memory can be expanded up ot 2GB with a microSD card. The reader supports .txt file which won't take up tooo much space.

Apple iPad Specifications

Just recently, Apple unveiled their company’s recent creation the Apple iPad. Many are asking about the Apple iPad’s multi-tasking capabilities and specifications. Well, as far as tech users are concerned, the huge touch-screen and thin design really brings out the beauty of the iPad. Just think of it as an enlarged iPhone with more processing power with added features like iBook and iWorks, plus a better browsing and gaming experience. Its processing speed is probably 2x faster than the Apple iPhone, running on a custom made 1GHz Apple A4 chip processor.

VIRTUAL GOODS FOR GOOD
By: Mary Joy Mondero

Virtual goods have been popular for several years in other parts of the world, particularly Asia, but are only now starting to catch on in United States and Philippines.

Virtual goods, which exists as digital bits on computers and cellphones, have grown more popular in the past years as important accouterments for increasingly web- oriented lives.

For many web start-ups , digital merchandise is an important source of revenue to replace scarce advertising. And a series of big- ticket deals suggests that virtual goods are emerging as more than just a squirky fad.

Video game Publisher Electronic Arts Inc. paid $275 million for Playfish; which makes games for social networks such as Facebook, which sell virtual goods. On the other hand, a group of investors poured $180 million into Zynga, another social networking game company. Virtual goods account for 90 percent of Zynga's revenue, which a person familiar with the company said has annualized revenue of $300 million.

Crowdstar recently abandoned in game ads in favor of virtual goods. Resulting in a significant financial improvement, though they would not provide details. ninety percent oif the raw online games will start-up sell virtual goods.

MODERN WORLD FOR MODERN PEOPLE?
By: Mary Joy Mondero

The computer and the web have certainly had a profound impact on our society and on most of the rest of the world as well. The new year clearly indicates that this isn't a temporary trend but one that will continue in ways that will, no doubt, continue to surprise us.

Change has taken its toll. Small local businesses face competition from those large enough to use web as a promotional and marketing tools. My prediction is that many won't survive if they don't innovate.

Among individuals, many of the poor are locked into their poverty by a lack of computer skills. Others have simply been left behind, bewildered and confused, unwilling or unable to accept changes. Yet computers and the web have enormously extended the horizons of those who have learned to use them- and those to do so. The effects on the poor are clear, there are efforts being made to compensate, but there is also a question of the effect on those who do grasp the changes and make them their own. How will their psyches be changed by the technical revolution?

What about those who are riding its crest? How will they be effected and will it be for better or worse? It seems evident there will always be both positive and negative effects. As more people learn what it can do for them, the greater its possibilities will become to those able and willing to exploit them.
